welcome, welcome, welcome back to another live reaction episode of. From our perspective, we're coming to you live at the game two of the eastern conference finals, where the indiana pacers take a two, two game lead over the new york kn man. Captain Hayden himself is grinning, he over here, smiling. I can see it from here, but I'm your boy Deion. Thank you again for joining us, thank you again for listening. Please like, please subscribe. Hit that link in the bio. We got the merch Q. How you doing, though. How you doing.
Speaker 2:Can I just be honest. I knew we was going to do this. Pod Quag was supposed to be here. I've been trying to get my excitement out because I don't want to do that on a pod with my dog. I want to be respectful. I've been trying to chill, not chill, but I've been trying to get all my excitement out, all my joy out, all my jumping up and down. I'm trying to get all that out. You know, right now, before we get to the pod, I'm screaming in the house. My son comes downstairs, he happy too. We dabbed it up, we hugged. Now you know we emotional, we happy. I said job ain't done. Got two more. We got to get two more. We got to get two more. We got to get two more. We good, we got to get there.
Speaker 1:Though, yeah, one of the greatest quotes from Kobe, you know. After he took a two-game lead over, I think he was in the finals, sports reporter asked him why you're not smiling. He was like hey, job not finished. Is job finished? No, I don't think so. They only up 2-0. Job not finished, but the Pacers are up 2-0. Good thing is they're up 2-0. Heading back to Indiana, as man, y'all like the road warriors man, I think y'all was 6-1 on the road.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, we are, we are, but we can't get too excited because this happened in the Cleveland series. Okay, you are, we won those two games on the road. Then we came home and laid the egg. You would think that we would learn from that Cleveland series and understand that we got to come in fighting. But remember, cleveland blew us out.
Speaker 1:Cleveland blew us out at home the New York Knicks, though this is a team you can just see it in their face. They are damn bad. They might can get back up before game three, but you can tell they're just defeated at this moment and, honestly, when you get a team down, defeated like this, you got to hit them with a sledgehammer and keep them down. Like Shannon Sharp always says, you got to kill a gnat with a sledgehammer. They down right now, can't give them no type of hope. But game three this was. You know we're going to call this the Siakam game. He put up 39.5 rebounds and three assists. It was his game. From the opening tip he was the guy that keep the paces in this game. In the first half Tyrese Halliburton struggled. In the first half he did end the game with a near triple double with 14 points, 8 boards and 11 assists. But again, this was a Siakam game. That's one of the best things about the United Pacers. Who going to take it over this week or this game? Obviously, last game was Aaron Neesmith and Tyrese Halliburton. Today was Siakam the Knicks. I mean Jalen Brunson, obviously. He put up 36 points. That's just a game. He's going to put up 36 points.
Speaker 1:Bridges contributed with 20 points. Carlton Towns he contributed with 20 points, but he only played 28 minutes. Mitchell Robson played 29. Now, mitchell Robson, what he was doing wasn't necessarily showing up on the stat sheet, but he was a pest on the offensive rebounding boards, even though some boards that he didn't technically get, but he caused his team to get it. As you know, he batted it and ended up going to another player, or you know how he does, but he ended up with more minutes than Carl Anthony Towns, which is odd, but you know it is what it is. Well, I mean, what's your thoughts on the New York Knicks? Like outside, I feel like outside of the rebounding, there's really nothing else they can hang their hat on that. They're betting the pace of that right now.
Speaker 2:So what surprised me about the town situation is well, not what surprised me. It's what surprised me. It surprised me that towns didn't was towards the fourth quarter. In the middle of the fourth quarter he wasn't playing, they had to bring it. I think it was like four minutes, four minutes or five minutes left. They switched out Robinson for Towns and in my head I'm thinking like Towns is your better offensive player At that point. You know, with Indiana we like to score, we like to run the gun, we like to put up points, and I get that. Mitchell Robinson gives you offensive rebounds, but Towns is going to give you buckets and you've seen that when we hit Mitchell with the hack of Mitchell which side note, I hate that Like a couple possessions, all right, cool.
Speaker 1:I mean, that's what y'all did. Y'all only did it. I want two times. And the Pacers is not going to do it most times because they want to be fast-paced, but y'all did it at the good spots. Y'all didn't do it like the Celtics did it last series. That was ridiculous. Hell all the time every time they found them.
Speaker 2:But I didn't like that. We did it. But I was surprised with the Mitchell situation. But, like you said, the stuff he does does not show in the box school. Mitchell is a dominant offensive rebounder, dominant, and we had to go deep into the pitch. Dude, I be thinking he be in street clothes, that's what I be thinking. He came in. It was actually start bodying and he was able to put a body on him because Turner wasn't effective. Brian, brian, brian got like that dog mentality but Robinson just be rebounding over him, rebound over him all the time. So it don't really, it's not really effective.
Speaker 1:I mean it's not at all. It's crazy because he, you can just tell he just has the wheel, he has it in him. You just tell he just has the will. Like he has it in him to like you can tell, like he was going to get that ball. That's his mindset. I'm going to get this ball, no matter what He'd be boxed out by two, three people and still somehow he ends up with the offensive rebound. I'd be thinking that's going to kill the Indiana Pacers, but it has not hurt them too much. It's hurt them a little bit, but it obviously hasn't hurt them enough for them to lose the game, as they are up 2-0. It's just odd but, as you said, y'all did go deep in y'all bench. The Pacers went 11 deep, the Knicks they only went 8 deep, which a little bit more than usually what Tom Thibodeau does. But hey, sometimes you got to do what you got to do.
Speaker 2:He's going to have to play his bench because we're going to run you and, like you said, we played 11 guys. Your dudes ain't going to be fresh if we keep ending every other day. He's going to have to play his bench, regardless if you want to or not.
Speaker 1:You guys played 11 guys. Of the six guys that came or not, you guys played 11 guys. Of the six guys that came off the bench, five of them played more than 10 minutes, the one of them played eight and the last one played four. They played significant minutes for the Knicks. Obviously, they only had three people come off the bench Robinson played 29 minutes, mcbride played 25 and Payne played 9. So even with the bench they played a lot. So it's rough.
Speaker 2:It's rough for the New York Knicks out there so let me ask you, watching this game, at any point, did you think the Knicks was going to win it?
Speaker 1:Early on I felt like the Knicks had it, but see, alcum, he was keeping the Pacers in it. After the second half the Pacers had it. They pretty much had control the whole second half. The Knicks obviously made their run towards the end and it was odd they had Mitchell Robson in there while they were trying to make that run and I was like you need Cat in there if you really want to try to make a run and fully take back the lead. It just didn't work. I just thought early on I felt like the Knicks had it, but they instantly disappeared in the second half. Y'all, early on I felt like the Knicks had it, but they instantly disappeared in the second half. Y'all needed to be thanking Siakam because if it wasn't for him, y'all would have been getting blown out in the first half. Who knows what would have happened in the second half, but Siakam saved y'all in that first half because nobody else was hitting.
Speaker 2:At one point he had 30-something of our 80 points. You wait, if it wasn't for Siakam we wouldn't have won that game. But Siakam is capable of doing that. I ain't going to lie. Sometimes when I watch Siakam he got a lot of herky-jerky and it feels like he's unbalanced. It feels like he's going to fall over, hit his face. Come on, play. His game is I don't know how to. When he be drilling that I be thinking he gonna turn it over every time, every time. And then he don't. And then he do this, you know, back up down, post, spin, post, fade away or whatever. And I be like, bro, why you shoot?
Speaker 1:oh, you hit that yeah, I see, I see I can get. We saw in Toronto. Obviously he's got a championship predatory. He's been there, done that, helping them pacers out. Hopefully they can get there and maybe do it one time. But honestly, we don't have our Knicks fan in here at the moment so I'm going to act as a pseudo-Knicks fan. If I'm a Knicks fan, I am very, very concerned Going down as a pseudo-Knicks fan. If I'm a Knicks fan, I am very, very concerned going down 2-0.
Speaker 1:Heading to Indiana, I felt like if the Knicks was going to win this game, they had to win it in five because obviously, with the depth issue, it's not even just the depth issue, it's just the way Tom Thibodeau likes to play and the way the Indiana Pacers like to play. This was a matchup nightmare and the longer this series goes, the worse off it is for the Knicks. And being down 2-0, it makes it even worse off because if they are going to win, they're going to have to stretch this series out even further and I felt like if the series got to six or seven games, I was going to take the Pacers because I felt like the Knicks was going to wear them. Who knows if they're even going to get to five at this point or we'll see. I'm asking you as a Pacers fan. You've been saying Pacers in six. Are you going to stick with that or you might sneak into Pacers in four?
Speaker 2:I'm going to stick with Pacers in six, even though I want it to be Pacers in four. I don't I'm going to stick with Pacers in six, even though I want it to be Pacers in four. I want it to be Pacers in four. But like I've been saying, don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Speaker 2:We showed with Cleveland that we can come to game three. Win two at home, come home. I mean win two on the road, come home, lose game three. We've shown them we can do that. New York also shown that they can win on the road. They've done it in the first round. They've done it in the second round against Boston. They showed that they can win on the road.
Speaker 2:They're going to fight. Jalen Brunson is going to have a say in this series. They're going to fight. Jalen Brunson is going to have a say in this series. And then Cat. Nothing wrong, jalen Brunson and Cat. They had good game ones. They're going to have. Both of them are going to have other games like that and it's going to be Bridges or OG, an extra game where they're going to give you like 20 or 25 on top of what them two do. It's going to come. It's just going to boil down to how do we answer? So, yes, I would love for it to be paces and four, but the Knicks have shown that they don't count them out neither. And they got the clutch play of the year in Jalen Brunson. If we get close, that was my real quick, my takeaway. So it was like a minute left and Miles Turner he faked the shot. He faked the shot because somebody was flying at him and then he moved to the left and shot three. Once he missed that three, I was like, oh shit, he was nervous.
Speaker 2:Yeah they coming. Like, honestly, truth be told, I was like okay they coming. Yeah they coming, like, honestly, you know, truth be told, I was like okay they coming, because you can't give Brunson those opportunities to close, to close out a game, especially a close game like that. So damn now, man, I was nervous.
Speaker 1:Damn, they're petrified what saved, what saved you guys, though. You know, with the last, basically the last shot of the game for the Knicks, I was up three and Jalen Brunson. He shot a deep, deep three. Probably not the smartest shot to take. Jalen Brunson is cool with it, but you can tell in his head he was concerned that the Pacers was probably going to foul and not get a chance. He was trying to get one up quick. I think that was saving you guys in this one here. Go ahead.
Speaker 2:I was going to say me personally, if he hadn't have shot it so quick, I think I would have failed. I wouldn't have failed Brunson, though the one person I'm not going to fail is him. Make OG make a shot, make them free throws. He can I'm not saying he can't, but make him make them free throws. Or can Whoever else is on that court make them? Make them free throws, because, again, brunson can knock out a clutch three.
Speaker 1:I doubt that he would have passed that right. He was taking that shot. Yeah, he did Game two. He was taking that shot. Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure, regardless, but game two is in the books. The Indiana Pacers has taken a 2-0 game lead. I hate it, though.
Speaker 2:I hate that I got to do this, but we got to talk about the Western Conference. We got to talk about the Western Conference.
Speaker 1:We just got to talk about it. I'm just going to talk about it. Do you really think the T-Wheels can even get one game off? Okc.
Speaker 2:I was going to say I think they can still get one game. Ant is going to get it, Even with being a hobble. I think Ant can get you one game, but Randall is going to have to be the one that's going to carry it for the most part and carry it basically to the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1:Yeah, julius Randle hasn't shown up since the first half of that first game. I don't know what happened the first half of the first game he was on one. Ever since then he has not shown up. It's just OKC. Just looks like they're hitting shoulders above the Timberwolves Like it's crazy how much better they seem.
Speaker 2:That's the thing with Randall is Randall's used to, you know, being the big dude and bodying dudes and no matter whether it's the pain or getting to his fight, he bodies them. He's a bully, you know. On the court, he's a bully on the court. Let me make sure I clarify that he's a bully on the court. Let me make sure I clarify that he's a bully on the court. He did it in the first. Like you said, he did it in that first half of game one. And look, in the second half of game one, when he took his shots, he did the same thing, but he only took like two or three.
Speaker 1:Yeah, he wasn't locked in. I don't know what's going on with him.
Speaker 2:I don't know, I don't either, but it's going to have to be round, round is going to have to occur at the end through the first 44 minutes.
Speaker 1:And then take you home, huh.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and then take you home Connelly I mean Connelly's long in the two. With no disrespect, you know what I'm saying, but if they can get a Conley game as well, or JD McDaniels, because JD McDaniels has shown glimpse through his playoffs that he can be more than just a defensive stopper, because he is a defensive stopper.
Speaker 1:JD McDaniels. He can get you, he can be one of them guys, and explode for six, threes.
Speaker 2:Yeah, he can do what Neesmith did in game one for first and next. If he can get you on those and I think I'm going to say that he does I'm going to say him and Randall will have a good game and closes out, they're going to get a game. They're going to get a game. I'm not going to say they're going to get swept. It might be a gentleman's sweep, but they're going to get a game as well.
Speaker 1:It might be a gentleman's sweep, but they're going to get a game. It's tough because I'm watching the game like bro. Minnesota ain't got nothing for him. Man, it's getting bad. You can tell that Shea again, congratulations to Shea. He picked up his trophy. But you can tell that Shea is getting to these players with his foul baiting. He's calling the free throw merchant. It's getting to him because he's trying to bait a foul. He's not getting it and it's pissing him off and they go in to actually foul him, like shoving him or something getting flagged ones and stuff like that. Shea is getting in the head of these players. So I don't know. I just think the Timberwolves are defeated and I'm interested to see what the first quarter looks like tomorrow At that point. Seeing how the Timberwolves come out in that first quarter next game will let me know if they can actually get a game or if they're just going to get swept and go ahead and start their vacation. They're going to start a little behind everybody else, but they're waiting for me in Cancun right now.
Speaker 2:Yeah they're going to get there. I ain't going to lie. You could go real quick because you talked about getting in their head. Brunson, when he got that foul towards the end of the game by grabbing Neesmith's jersey, you could tell the same thing that they're getting in Brunson's head about being all physical with him. So when he did it, grabbed the jersey, he gave him a little push, he got called for the foul. You start getting in people's heads. They start playing different, they start playing out of character. When it was a timeout they had, brunson was fussing at the ref and I won't say it was McHale Bridges, no, I think it was Josh Hart. They kind of like just go Go to the bench, just come on, come on, just get it, let's go. We got like next play, next play. Minnesota is going to have to get out of their own heads and get out of their own way if they're going to get this game that I believe they're going to get.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you're going to say they get a game. I'm going to say they get a game. I'm going to say they just going to get swept, because I just really they feel defeated. That's how I see it so far. Like, again, I'm going to say it again the first quarter of this game is going to tell me everything If they don't come out like they should come out, they're going to get swept.
Speaker 1:Because, man, okay, see just, we watched the Denver series and both of you me, me and you we was pretty down on Denver going into the playoffs. We felt like they'd lose to the Clippers and then we felt like the Clippers had a better chance to make the finals than Denver. Obviously, denver took the Clippers to seven and beat them, and Denver gave everything OKC had. So that made me feel like OKC wasn't the world beaters, that they would have been in the regular season. I felt like, oh, they wasn't the world beaters, that they would have been in the regular season. I felt like, oh, they could get beat.
Speaker 1:I know it's Denver, I know they've got a ring in their back pocket, but Minnesota played that same team last year and it was a competitive series, but OKC is. I don't know, maybe they hit a switch. After they got a confidence boost from being one of the best players in the world at Yoke's and then the Denver, they hit a switch and it's going to be concerning if the Pacers and or the Knicks have to face OKC and it's going to be a tough hill to climb.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, it's going to be a battle because OKC is looking dominant. Okc is looking real dominant, the thing we got to remember. Yeah, no, it's going to be a battle because OKC's looking dominant, okc's looking real dominant. The thing we got to remember, though last year with Minnesota, they did have Cat. Yeah, cat is a more stretch of mouth offensive being compared to Randall.
Speaker 1:Yeah, true.
Speaker 2:Maybe that does have a little difference in the play. Maybe I don't know. It's kind of hard to explain why, Like besides just saying OKC is so much better and they're deeper. Because if you look at OKC like, well, game two, J-Dub gave you some offense, Chad gave you some offense and some defense, which is where Chad played game two, the way that everybody thinks that he's going to play. You know, for the rest of his career he's going to be able to give you something on both ends of the ball using his ass and kind of like he's supposed to be the wimpy stopper.
Speaker 2:That's what Chad's supposed to be. So if they continue to give you that, it's going to be hard. If J-Dub continue to give you that and Chad continue to give you the offense and defense, it's going to be hard. If J-Dub continue to give you that and Chad continue to give you the offense and defense, it's going to be hard. It's going to be real tight for Minnesota. It might be hard to get the game, but I'm going to say they're going to get it so right on time though it was get ready and get up out of here, but I got a question to ask you before we get out of here it's not basketball related Before you close.
Speaker 1:Right when we was getting ready to get out of here, I was playing as the pseudo Nick Finn today, but we actually have he's here.
Speaker 1:Actual Nick Finn in the building DQ Welcome, welcome Again. You know where your shoes go, you know where the alcohol is, you know where the bathroom's at. But we're going to skip all that and we're going to slide back to the Eastern Conference Finals. Just give me your thoughts. Your team is down 0-2. Give me your thoughts, give me what you think they need to change and give me your confidence level that they can pull this series out.
Speaker 3:Honestly, I'm going to keep it real, as real as I can be. Fire Tears right now. May Rick Brunson, the coach, fire Tears right now.
Speaker 2:All right bro, thank you.
Speaker 3:Why is Cat not touching the floor in the fourth quarter? Why is Brunson on the bench? You know five floor in the fourth quarter. Why is Brunson on the bench? You know, five minutes into the fourth quarter Brunson's doing rest time you gotta let Brunson rest. You do, but why don't you put him and Cat back in at the same time? I understand, look, I understand the others went off tonight. I mean, I ain't going to call Siakam an other, even though he is. He's not. He's been an other these playoffs.
Speaker 2:No, he ain't, come on with your point.
Speaker 3:Hey, put Rick Brunson here, man. Let Rick Brunson stand up and handle business. He obviously knows what he's doing, because hebs acting like he don't know a damn thing.
Speaker 1:So what is your confidence level that the Knicks can pull it out?
Speaker 3:Are you?
Speaker 1:out on the Knicks right now.
Speaker 3:Hell, no, never out. I'm just saying we're going to have to see what this game three look like Now. Game three is a must move. Is that what they say?
Speaker 2:It's 2-0. So, yeah, game three is a must win. Ain't that what they say? I mean it's 2-0. So, yeah, game three is definitely a must win.
Speaker 3:I think that's kind of one of those go-without-saying situations. Bro, yeah, must win, for sure I agree.
Speaker 1:I don't like saying must wins on non-Eleven Nation games, but it's a you have to win this game? Well, no, you better win, you better win, you better win. The world isn't going to end. You're not going to go home if you lose game 3, but, like Q said, you can cancel Christmas though you better, win you can cancel Christmas. Mr Robinson got banged up.
Speaker 3:it's about that time we know how this thing go with the T. Mr Robinson got banged up. It's about that time we know how this thing go with the TS teams.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I was concerned.
Speaker 3:Honestly, if they don't get over this hump, I don't think he'll be back. And if he is back, he won't be back for the whole next year.
Speaker 2:He'll be back next season. I think he'll be back.
Speaker 1:He'll definitely be back next season. It would take a catastrophic start to the season for them to fire him, I believe. But if I am a GM I will say this not trusting your bench would annoy me Like bro. I mean. That's Tim's style, though.
Speaker 2:He don't trust you, he don't play his bench.
Speaker 2:That's the problem, though, kind of like why Dimple got a GM in the head coach at Favre. If I'm a GM, I'm drafting these dudes. I'm getting you new talent. You got to play these dudes because you're going to cause injuries to these star players. You still got to be able to work with what you get, especially when I'm doing my job, giving you talented players that could fill roles. You know what I'm saying? He ain't asking these dudes to go out here and play 40 minutes. Hey, I'm giving you dudes that can play 15 to 20 minutes a game when we need them. You got to trust in them to do that.
Speaker 2:Tim, hear me out. And Tim, like you said, let's say they lose this series and then they go next series and they have the same situation where the players are tired and they can't keep going. Tim's going to have to get fired. I don't know if anybody else should hire Tim because, in fact, he ain't willing to adjust. Like you said, that's his MO. He's done that at every stop. Okay, cool, you won a lot of games, but have you got over the hump? Never.
Speaker 3:You actually kill it, destroy it. Career killer yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but there is stats that say not all of his people. The injury is kind of overblown a little bit it is.
Speaker 3:It is Like the Derrick Rose one. Yes, we give you that. Honestly, I'm going to put Brunson on you last year. That's on you low key.
Speaker 1:The OG and the Noble was pretty horrific last year.
Speaker 3:Hell. I can't say Mitchell Robinson, because he stayed getting hurt.
Speaker 1:He came in his bag. Josh Hart got hurt too. Josh Hart got hurt too.
Speaker 3:Josh Hart got hurt this year. Last year, who on that Minnesota team didn't make it through Cat for a couple seasons? Yeah, cat did get hurt. Cat did get hurt. Like I said, I don't know how much of that actually goes on, tibbs.
Speaker 1:Yeah, like I said, if I'm a GM these two years, I love what you're doing. You brought basketball back to the New York Knicks, but, man, you're losing the same way. And it's to this point and I saw a stat that the Pacers and Knicks, they seem like they face each other for the 50th time in the playoff, which is the most all-time. The Pacers and Knicks, they seem like they face each other for the 50th time in the playoff, which is the most all-time. The Pacers is going to keep this play style up for at least a couple more years. They're still pretty young. Rick Carlisle, he's 65. He'll probably coach at least a couple more years, especially if he keeps having success.
Speaker 1:It's going to get to a point where anytime you get to the playoffs you got to try to avoid the Pacers like the play, because they do what you can't do or they do what hurts you the most and play with pace and go deep. Everybody else you can handle but the Pacers, even though they may not be as talented as you. It's a styles make fight situation and their style doesn't help you guys out.
Speaker 2:The thing with the faces is we might not have top-end talent but we got a bunch of very good guys. Take out Halliburton. Take Halliburton outside caliber, Pascal Siakam outside caliber. But even them two you wouldn't say they top. You wouldn't say they top five In the league right now. You wouldn't say they top ten.
Speaker 3:Like they like reserves, and you know what I mean.
Speaker 2:All-Star, all-star reserves.
Speaker 3:I mean, I don't mean respect Like disrespect. I'm just saying like, yeah, you know what I'm saying. You know they get in on the second ballot. You know they get drafted in.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but, like I said, they both are star caliber players. But then after that we got a bunch of very good players, very good players, and a lot of teams don't have them. All right, bro, we can go. Come on, bro, like what's the problem?
Speaker 3:Like I understand, you boosting your team, but very good.
Speaker 1:TJ McConnell is a very good backup Are you watching the Aaron. Neesmith you saw what he did.
Speaker 3:Y'all winning games, bro. That's all I can say bro is y'all winning games?
Speaker 2:They're not very good players, bro. They're not good players. What are we talking about, bro?
Speaker 3:I'm saying, like I said, bro, y'all got to.
