Welcome Back And Quick Catch-Up

SPEAKER_00

Welcome, welcome, welcome back to another episode of From My Perspective. I'm your boy Deion coming back to you with another episode. Thank you for bearing us with us, guys. You know, we took a week off, but now we're back. Go ahead, like, go ahead and subscribe, and uh tell us how much you missed us in that comic session. But I'm your boy Dion. You know, I'm joined by the man, the myth, the legend himself, Captain Hater Q. How you doing on this fine uh dog days of the summer?

SPEAKER_01

Man, what do it is? You write another bad boy, Mr. Bear. Aka AK say your name up on the spot. My not with you, but ma. For us to take off last week. We did all right, numbers why but yeah, man. We appreciate y'all, you know, rocking with us through the off time.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man, buddy. A lot better than some other people. Uh we had a good week last week, bro. That's all I'm saying. Uh dog, but uh, like I said, it's the dog days of the summer, not much going on all-season, NBA season, WNBA's kicking in, but they got that all-star break. We'll get to that a little bit later.

WWE Summer Shows Feel Lazy

SPEAKER_00

But you said it before, you know, no, in past episodes. This time of the year, the WWE should be cooking with hot grease. They should be putting their best effort because they ain't nothing else to watch. They ain't got no competition for real. Let's be honest. Ain't much competition. You got baseball. You got the WMB. As much as the WNBA has grown, it's still not as high as an NBA or the NFL in college football. You don't have much competition. And they being lazy with that uh usually they care about when they have events in Madison Square Garden. Seems like they didn't care about that Saturday Nights Mid event. I kind of watched it. You know, it was it was date night for me, so I was watching, you know, men that are in relationships, you know, when you have date night and you get ready, you're usually ready before your girl. I was watching it as I was ready, waiting for her to finish getting ready. So I watched a good hour, hour and a half, and I'm just huh, this is cool. Watch Dan Housing match. I'm like, ah, I'm kind of over the Dead Housing stuff. But shout out to Cap for showing. But what was your thoughts on that laziness of WWE?

SPEAKER_01

Dion, let's be real. I didn't know none of the matches, besides the tag team match, because I felt like that was brought on last minute. The Gunk, the Gunther, Sami Zayn versus Cody Rhodes and uh CM Punk. Besides that match, I didn't know none of the other matches that was going on. The women's tag team title match. I feel like it just popped up. Wasn't no storyline, wasn't no, at least for me. It didn't feel like it was a storyline, wasn't no build-up for it's a tag team, it's your women's tag team match titles. You didn't want to put none, no real effort into it, and then you got trick trick Williams fighting somebody on a pre-show. Somebody, I don't even know where it is. Is he from Triple A or whatever the case may be? And then the down house and stuff. It was cool because they was in New York and you brought out a cat. So it it kind of it kind of made sense, but I don't that time it worked, but the overall downhouse, like you just said, bro, it is kind of getting a little old. I just want them to do something different. But my biggest, my biggest gripe is with this Saturday night's main event is Peacock is giving y'all this money, like it's at least a attempt, a try. We keep talking. I harp on the U.S. women's title. If you're not gonna put it on a PLE, because it ain't gonna be on SummerSlam, because she's gonna be in that, you know, uh crown and interim. Yeah, crown and interim champion. So the U.S. women's champion championship belt should be a staple for every Saturday's night main event. So at least you know there is something on this card. Put some all I'm asking is can you put some effort in Saturday night's main event? Just a little bit. Hey, you get I don't know about you. How did you feel about Roman and Jalen Brunson ending the show?

SPEAKER_00

I mean, Roman's a big star. Jalen Brunson, obviously a big star. It was, I mean, it was cool. I know you was probably you know hype to see your guy, Tyrese Halliburton, mixing up. He is a villain of Madison Square Guard, him and Trey Young. I don't know who you say is more of a villain, probably probably Tyrese, because he actually won.

SPEAKER_01

I was already saying probably Tyrese because he did it in the playoffs. And you know, he hit him with the you know, Tyrese hit him with the choke side, yeah. But only reason I say that is because I think they should have started the show with that. I get the Jalen Brunson and Roman does it the stars, blah blah blah, blah, blah, blah. But I it makes for me, it makes more sense to end with a title match. I know it's in New York, I know it's in Madison Square Garden, I know it's in, you know, it's at the uh Fanatics Fest. But I think it just would have been better starting off and ending with an actual match. Yeah, I like how they did it. I just wish they started with it.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. But well, but yeah, it was good to see Tyrese. Got me excited for Indiana Pacer basketball. We got something special for you guys later uh in the month of August. Hopefully, you guys are excited about that like we are. But you know, Saturday Smith event was cool. It was lazy. I didn't even, I need I it wasn't even cool. It was all right.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't say it was for what it was, it was decent. But I just feel like they should put some more effort into it. That's

SummerSlam Hype And Card Talk

SPEAKER_01

all.

SPEAKER_00

Well, let's say it looks like they put some effort in SummerSlam. I'm actually pretty excited for the SummerSlim card, especially when we're gonna figure out when they did be up what which what matches are going what night, so I can figure out which one I'm gonna be most excited for. But you know, you you know you you boys that from our perspective, we got you guys with a prediction next week. We'll probably give you out two for Saturday night and a Sunday night, uh SummerSlam. I'm definitely probably gonna be watching a lot of you. So far, how you feeling about SummerSlam?

SPEAKER_01

I feel like SummerSlam is it's building up to be better than WrestleMania. Yep. I at least from from my perspective, I think SummerSlam is gonna be better than WrestleMania.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. I I don't think I think both nights can potentially be good. So I think you got a pretty good amount of matches on the card. And they're probably gonna add we got one, two, three, six, seven, eight. We got nine official matches. We'll probably get what about three more?

SPEAKER_01

I was gonna say, yeah, we probably get 12, but we probably get 12 in total, so six and six. So yeah, we it's I I think it's gonna be better. I already I already feel like the world type championship matches is better. And then we you uh Brock and Oba is gonna be better. Then the women's ladder matches, they always deliver. I don't like the whole interim situation. It should just be a vacated title, but that's neither her.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna hate on that next uh I'm gonna hate on that next week. We doing this now, we doing this now at all the vacate. I'll wait till next week. I'll wait till next week. But yeah, SummerSlam, me and Q, we're excited for it. But let's go ahead and move on. Again, it's the dog days of summer. But you know what's

SEC Rumors About Leaving NCAA

SPEAKER_00

going on? College football media days. ATC had Thursday last week, and the big bad STC has had or having nerds this week. Um, one thing I want to hate on uh the team in blue, their head coach. He did one kind of nice, nice little dope quote talking about they're gonna win because of him. I'm hating. I hope y'all don't win because of you, because I don't want y'all to win. But that was some bigger news coming out of the SEC. Uh they basically saying, hey, we low key might just start our own league because NCAA ain't nothing. What's your thoughts on that?

SPEAKER_01

You know how crazy that sounds and how arrogant that sounds that the SEC thinks we're capable of building our own league. Man, I was listening to Spencer Hall talk, great college football writer and reporter. He said the SEC was the last conference to get their own network. And then they had ESPN do all the work for them. They just put their name on it. So who's gonna do all your work to set up your league? If y'all break away from the NCAA, it's gonna be on y'all. The money and business, money is ruining a lot of things that people love. Whether it's the arts like comedians and TV shows and music, people's looking at it for a profit instead of looking at it as an art. College football should be money is ruining it, ruining it. And it never was supposed to be that. You should have always been paying the playoffs, should have been doing that a long time ago.

SPEAKER_00

But they clearly, it's not even necessarily playing it, allow these guys to make you get endorsements, allow these guys to sign, sign an autograph, and get some paper. If they would have just did that, we wouldn't have been in this predicament.

SPEAKER_01

You're right. You're right. If they had just allowed them to do that then, we wouldn't be hurt. But now we heard okay. Pay the players. He said a lot of stuff in his press conference. I agree with the five for you get five years to play, you get five years to play five. You know what I'm saying? Uh I also I kind of agree with uh you get one transfer. Because I've always been a fan of these players, shouldn't be allowed to transfer so many times because they're not putting roots down nowhere. And it's gonna it's better in the long run for them because most of them's not going pro. It's better for them in the long run to have some roots in one school, so they can always get a job somewhere because they went to that school, they graduated from that school. But the start in the only, how does this gonna work for y'all? You're ruining what college football makes. Because simple fact, it is Lilvin, the Louisville game, is that gonna continue? Because y'all in your own league. So y'all, and then how you gonna crown yourself a champion if you don't play the Big Ten schools, if you don't play the Big 12 schools, if you don't play the SEC schools, Florida, Florida State no longer exists, South Carolina Clemson no longer exists. You're not gonna get an Ohio State versus Alabama because simple fact the SEC broke itself away. I don't think that realistically, from the people I listen to, they don't I they don't none of them believe the SEC can pull it off successfully. They think they might try it, but they don't think they could pull it off successfully.

SPEAKER_00

I don't uh it's no point in pulling it like and even if it does, they champion will have an asterisk behind it every year. Especially considering the Big Ten won their last the last three. Yep. It'd be a different it'd be different if the SEC has won the last 10 national championships, in which there was a time they were that dominant, but y'all not that dominant. It's a little bit tighter. Uh what I think is more likely though is um the power of four conferences basically breaking away from the group of five conferences. I can see that happening. I think that's more likely. I can see them eventually where the group of five, they have their own tournament and the power four have their own tournament. That's more likely. And do I like it? Uh not necessarily. I I'm a I'm a fan of the underdogs. I've been an opponent of the underdogs, but because I there was a thing where I think Nick Saban said he thinks all Power 4 teams should play only all Power 4 teams. Again, I get it, but I'm a fan. You you don't get uh Appalachian State being a Michigan, you don't get you don't get none of those because that's another thing that makes college football great. You don't get a northern Illinois beating Notre Dame. You don't get those things. Now, obviously, do they happen every year? No, does it is most of the time they're like a 55 to 10 blood? Sure, but you don't get those moments, and so those moments is what made college football. So I think you can't shouldn't do it, but I can see them potentially basing the power four breaking away from the group of five. Well, that's the most I can see happening.

SPEAKER_01

No, I agree with that. I probably daddy, you're right. That's probably the more realistic option. But you gotta think, when I was growing up, it was only 107 D1 schools, yeah. And now it's like what 140 something? As far as football, it's like 140, 150, and they continuously add more because of the simple fact of conference realignment, because these you got these major conferences. I just I kind of wish it could go back to those days, but then you know, you you like you said, you lose your Appalachian states, you use your University of Charlotte, you you you lose your Georgia states, and those programs wanna compete on the highest level, but are they really competing on the highest level? No, they're not really competing with Georgia and Florida State, but are they competing better than schools like a Murray State and the East?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that that's one thing they should need to stop doing, and I think they are stop playing them FCS schools.

SPEAKER_01

Let's see, that's the same. The FCS schools need those games because that's their whole athletic budget. True. Alabama pays them their athletic budget to come down here and get spanked. The FCC, the FCS schools need those games. Good point. Maybe they should do it, you know, I don't know, as like a preseason game.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe keep it week zero.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, uh or hell, before that, just make like I said, make it like a strict preseason game. We're gonna count against the record. We ain't even playing four or four quarters. We're gonna play two quarters, break it down in halves, and still give the school those schools those m that money. I mean, that's just it's a crazy idea, but it's just a thought. So that

Money, Transfers, And What Fans Lose

SPEAKER_01

way the LTS the FCS schools still get that paper, and the Alabamas can get their practice in, I guess. Yes, live competition. It's live competition. Now they're doing it now. Uh, what was it, Kansas and Louisville or somebody play in basketball?

SPEAKER_00

Yep, we did. We played and we and Louisville will go to whatever they stayed here or go to Kansas to scrimmage them in that exhibition game. I mean, I think basketball's a little easier.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, true. I just I'm just saying, if they do it in the college basketball already with big programs, why can't Alabama do it with an FCS cool? Or let me stop using Alabama, Oregon, do it with an LCS coop.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, but yeah, so yeah, we'll see what happens. Uh, we will have some reviews of college football. We'll give you some of our predictions, like Heisman, conference winners, who's gonna who you we think is being 12 team playoffs, and who we think is gonna win it all. Uh if you're going by what we did last year, I don't know if you want to listen to us because it was rough, at least for me. It was rough. Because Indiana went out. I didn't think Indiana was gonna do it.

SPEAKER_01

And I don't think none of us picked the hazman of the people, you know, the we did the five. So, yeah, nah, don't put your money with us. That's all I'm saying. We're gonna get it.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, we'll have that review for you guys uh before we

FCS Games And A Preseason Idea

SPEAKER_00

move over. Again, it's the dog days of the summer. We got the women's all-star break, but Mm-B, they had their all-star break too. I just want to shout out John Walker. Uh Jordan, Jordan Walker. I said Jordan. Jordan Walker for winning the home run derby. Hey, you did your thing. And what you said in the postgame that you want more black kids to play baseball, I agree with you 100%. Because the way them contracts be looking. Man, get your son a uh baseball glove at the back.

SPEAKER_01

I'm ready to look up some leads now because he's a novice, he's starting late. We're gonna figure something out. We're gonna figure something out for my boy.

SPEAKER_00

But uh uh shout out to him again. But let's go ahead and talk about the WNBA.

MLB Home Run Derby Shout-Out

SPEAKER_00

They all-star weekend is here. Uh, obviously,

WNBA Three-Point Picks And All-Star Starters

SPEAKER_00

they got the all-star game. They got Team Coop versus Team Spoon. But let's talk about the three-point contest that they're having. Uh, it will be Bridget Curleton, Marina Howard, AZ Food, Marina Mayberry, the girl that dropped 50, Natasha Hidden Man, and Janelle Saloon. So those are your ladies. It's in the three-point contest. It's happening uh, depending on when you're listening to it, either just happened or it's happening right now, as it's Friday, the July 24th. Who you got in the three-point contest?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I gotta go with the young lady that dropped 50. Yeah. I gotta go. I think Indiana fever bias. I think so uh Sophia Cunningham should have been in the contest, but uh, you know, I'm just giving my little two cents. But yeah, uh, Marina, I gotta go with her. She dropped 50. Mm-hmm. Without I mean, I feel like we that's without question. If I get that one wrong, okay. She still dropped 50. She still dropped 50. Like the chances of her winning, respectfully, seem higher than the other women because in fact, I see what I seen her put that ball in a hole a bunch of times. She dropped 50. And not to mention the game, I think the game before that, she had like 40s on. So yeah, she's been balling.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. So uh I I'm I'm I'm just gonna go be different, which then you I'm gonna just go with AZ Food. She's a she's a very good shooter. I think she's got it. So shout out. I'm gonna go with that just to be different for you. But let's go talk about the game Team Coop versus Team Spoon. Uh the stars for each team starts for Team Coop is Paige Buckers, Breonna Stewart, Kelsey Mitchell, Natasha Howard, and Gabby Williams. It starts with Team Spoon, Caleb Clark, Aja Wilson, Olivia Miles, Leah Boston, and Jessica Shepard. Me and you both, we looked at the roster together, and we both said, yeah, Team Spoon, they look they look kind of scary at the top. So what's your thoughts on this? The especially at least the starters of these all-star teams. Respectfully.

SPEAKER_01

And I say this with the utmost respect. Team Coop look like it's gonna they it's gonna be a little struggle for them because Paige Buckets, Brianna Stewart, Kelsey Mitchell, right? Three phenomenal players. And I'm not saying Natasha Howard and Gabby Williams are not, but they not on the level of your Caitlin Clark, your Aja Wilson, your Olivia Mouse, your Leah Boston. That's a that's a hard roster. Don't get me wrong, I got number love for Natasha Howard. She played for the FIBA last year and she balled out, and Gabby Williams does play great defense, and you put but it's an all-star game. Who really? Yeah, we'll see how much defense they actually play. Probably more than what the fellas do, but hey. Probably a little bit more than an NBA all-star game. But I don't think it's gonna be that much more than an NBA all-star game. So I don't and then you look at the rest of the roster, you got Ryan Howard, Alicia Gray, Joaquin Jones, Courtney Williams, uh, Kiki, and then uh I ain't even gonna pronounce her pronounce this lady's name wrong, but she plays for the uh Sparks, Nikia or Oguma Wise or something. Yeah, yeah, her sister, her sister is on ESPN. Shout out to them. She's cold, and she's the all-time leader scorer in uh Sparks history now. She just shows a shout-out to her uh and don't get me wrong, they got Kelsey Plum. They they uh Marina that I picked in the all-star in the three-point contest is on team. She low key should be a starter just for dropping 50. I was just about to say that. She probably should be a starter over Gabby. Low-key. And then Angel Reese should probably be the starter over Natasha Howard. Yeah. But I get it because uh the Atlanta Dream, it's they got three all-stars. So it's kind of you know, they kind of balance each other out, but I think they should have this Angel Reese should have been a starter. Hell, honestly, uh Alicia Grey should have been a starter too.

SPEAKER_00

I just tell you the cut uh the good competitions in the WNBA right now, and we got it. Uh so yeah, that's the start. So I I guess you just go with Tease Spoon to win. Oh, yeah, without question.

SPEAKER_01

It's team, I'm going with Team Spoon by 12.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So well, since we're at the all star break, let's go ahead and look at the

WNBA Standings And Fever Championship Debate

SPEAKER_00

standings. Uh the Western conference, just like the NBA, is it's it's a superior conference. I don't know what it is about West Western basketball in the WNBA and NBA, but it's always the most of superior basketball. Uh the Lynx didn't only lead the West, but they lead the whole league with a 22-6 record. The Valkyries, they're coming up right behind them, 19-8. The Aces, they not too far at 18-8. And the Wings is 18-9. That's the top four in the West. We go over to the East. It's kind of cluttered together with the top four. It's only two and a half games separating the top four teams. Your fever holding the first place by a slim margin at 17 and 10 record. The dream is 16-10. The Liberty is 15-12. And the Mystic is 14-12. So it's pretty clustered up there for the Eastern Conference team. How are you feeling about uh how the standings sit right here at the all-star break?

SPEAKER_01

It's crazy when you look at the stand-ins. The West got the top four, then the east got the next four. And then after that, it goes back and forth.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Nan team, left. It literally goes back and forth uh between east-west, east-west. Uh I'm gonna be a homer. Can I just be a homer for a minute? Uh-huh. The fever have been playing better. They just uh I try I can't think of who they just played, but they was blowing them out about 20 points. The fever have been playing better, we're getting better going down the stretch. If Caitlin Clark continues to be a pass first, score second, and then you allow Kelsey Mitchell and the Leah Boston to get their buckets and Sophia Cunningham, which is shooting like 40, I think it was 43 or 46% from the three-point, from the three-point arc, from three-point line. If you continue to get everybody else involved, and then you score second, so it makes it the offense easier for you. I don't, I feel, I don't, you know what I'm saying? Hey, look, shout out to Lamar, the WNBA guy. When he was on the pod, he said we not a championship contender. If we she do what if she do those things, I disagree. I feel like we are. That's just from my perspective. I think the I think the Indiana Fever could win the WNBA championship this year. As long as Kaitlin Clark be a pass first point guard and score second because the offense will be easier. That's just me being the homer, it's just me being the homer in me. And the Valkyries, they coach is phenomenal. Because I just be watching her. I'm gonna switch to the Valkyries real quick. I be watching her on the sidelines when when they be on when I watch them on TV. And it looked like she reminded me of Greg, like Greg Popovich in a way.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's like it, I don't know what it is about it, but she just reminds me of Greg Popovich in a way, even though I in a way, but even though I know, like I said, the links, like you said, the links are the number one over uh number one overall in uh fee came back last game. I'm gonna say yesterday, but by the time y'all heard it, she came back on the previous on Wednesday. And they still they still look good with Fee coming back in the lineup.

SPEAKER_00

So I don't know. Uh like I said, your team do look like a championship contender, but do you think they can compete with what's going on in the West? The Lynx, the Valkyries, the Ace, or the Wings.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Is it the Homer in me? Look, I was is it the Homer in me? Yeah, but I feel like we can compete as long as our defense is a little shaky at times. I'm not even gonna sit here and pretend like it's not, but our job is to outscore everybody. That's what we supposed to do. That's our job is to outscore everybody.

SPEAKER_00

Sometimes that's all you gotta do. Sometimes that's the best way to win the game. Is the best defense is the is a better offense, some people say.

SPEAKER_01

Now that now that now that is facts because it's the fact, hey, if we can't slow you down, as long as we continue to put that ball in the hole, all we gotta do is get one stop when it matters the most. That's all we need. Is that one stop when it matters the most?

SPEAKER_00

Good point. But yeah, so I mean, WNB all star breakers
